Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 4. We trust that you had a wonderful holiday break and that everyone is as excited as we are to begin Term 4!
At Franklin Primary School, Term 4 is packed full of exciting events. In week 3, the Year 5/6s are heading off to camp at Blue Lagoon in Dodges Ferry. This promises to be a fantastic experience, with staff at our school working very hard to ensure that students will have a safe, fun and happy time.
Towards the end of the term, we will also celebrate a number of exciting events. Year 6 Leaver’s Dinner, the Big Day Out, Fun/Colour Run and of course our End of Year Assembly where we celebrate the achievements of our students from this year; are all to look forward to.
Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT) has also begun in earnest this week. The data that teachers collect from the tests is vitally important to the planning of future teaching and learning opportunities. We encourage all students to give it their best.
Mr. Milne is also returning to the school in Week 3 after his well-earned break. It has been a privilege to lead the school in his absence, and I am sure everyone is looking forward to seeing him and hearing about his time away.
Here’s to a fantastic Term 4.
Nick de Tarczynski
Prep have begun the term with an excursion to kunyani. We had an absolutely stunning sunny day for it. We have been exploring what’s in our backyard at home, school, Franklin and now Hobart. The views were amazing and we noticed many landmarks. We all had a great day and enjoyed a play at the park afterwards! Thankyou to our helpers.
Prep have also kicked our writing up a notch and we are now able to write a few sentences, have a go at all words, structure sentences AND make them interesting.

We have had a lovely settled start to term 4. The children were so happy to see each other after their break and were ready to get stuck into everything we had to offer.
I asked the question, during circle time, why do we need letters?
Indie: we need letters to make words so we can learn.
Arty: we need letters to write things.
Harvey: because things start with letters.
Izzy: So, we can read. Letters have sounds they make.
We are immersing ourselves in all things letters this term, so watch this space!
Out athletics carnival was another huge success. The children had a wonderful time. A big thank you to all of the families who came to help on the day, it was much appreciated.

Year 1/2 really enjoyed their recent excursion to kunanyi and Kingston Park. It was wonderful to listen to the children identifying both manmade and natural landmarks they could see from the top of the mountain. A massive thank you to Tyler and Ashley who volunteered their time and make it possible for us to go. Please enjoy a snapshot of the day through these photos.
Everyone joined in and gave it their best shot at the athletics carnival. We had lovely weather and heaps of support. Thank you Mr Mitchell for organising such a great carnival. You can see from the phots that we all had a great time.

Here we are in Term 4. We started our first day of Term 4 with co-operative games such as working together in teams, and each of the two teams had to put a puzzle of an Australia map together.
We also shared our favourite holiday experiences first during a ‘Think, Pair, Share’ activity, and then each wrote a recount of our holidays to add to our Class Holiday Newspaper.
In Maths, we have been learning about how to read maps and we have continued our Phonics groups every morning.
We all had a go at participating in all events offered at our Athletics Carnival in Huonville. What a terrific effort from all!
Thank you to all school staff, the parent helpers and the Huonville High School students for their help to make the day full of teamwork and fun.

Now most of us don’t say Run and Fun in the same sentence, but this is a Fun Run that is close to the heart of our Community.
It it’s 5th year for the Fun Run and the Dover District School are digging out the old running shoes to Walk, Jog, or Run, to support the Dover Fun Run.
There is an event for everyone, 2km, 5km and 10km.
You can sign up here —> www.doverfunrun.org
Don’t worry, you don’t need to be able to run the whole way!
Every dollar from registration fees is donated straight to the Royal Hobart Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
So it’s an amazing cause
Would love to see you there, there will be food and drinks, and also lots of FREE activities for the kids and remember the Annabelle Run is 2km for kids and is only for fun, so all the kids can get involved!!
See you there!!

At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
Learning Objectives of the Program:
- Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read the emotional needs
- Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
- Enhance the development of your child’s self esteem
- Honor your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure

“A secure attachment between child and caregiver is critical to a child’s current and future well being… Research show that securely attached children have increased empathy, greater self esteem, better relationships with parents and peers, enter school more ready to learn, greater resilience in the face of adversity and are able to regulate their emotions better than their less secure peers. As they grow older, secure children become less likely to live in poverty, have legal problems, or experience chronic emotional difficulties.”
