Hi Everyone,
The last two weeks at Franklin have been eventful. We have had the most amazing community support, from parents coming along to support the X-country carnival to the fantastic Mother’s Day and Significant Others Breakfast. Our school and its community is such a wonderful place to be. From everyone at Franklin Primary School, we hope you had the most amazing Mother’s Day!
We have also had a promotion of one of our staff members, with Mrs Holly Upston joining Kingston High School in her new position as Advanced Skills Teacher. We congratulate her and wish her the very best, we know Mrs Upston will do wonderful things.
I was also lucky enough to attend a leadership professional learning on the Art of School Culture last Thursday. The big takeaway from the day was that as people we tend to focus on outcomes and how that makes us feel. Whether this be the results on a test, winning a game of soccer, being the fastest, strongest, smartest. However, if we can turn that thinking around and simply focus on what motivates us, our values, and whether our behaviours during those opportunities marry up with how you want to be then the outcomes will always end up being positive, because you will grow and be proud of yourself. This thought centred me back to what is important to us all, your children and the important work that will move us forward so that they can achieve excellent outcomes both as individual people and respectful, grateful learners. Not everything will go swimmingly in life, however, our behaviours during times of uncertainty can represent who we are as people and as a community.
Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect, Responsibility – How will we show our values today!
I know, through my walk arounds, discussions with staff and students and the interactions I have with parents, that we are moving towards real growth for our community of learners.
Have a wonderful weekend,
James Milne
Principal
The wait is over!! Our year 6 Leaver's Hoodies have arrived. Safe to say the students were happy and excited.

There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked bread on a cool day.
It was an absolute pleasure making bread with the kindergarten children this week. It’s become somewhat of a tradition in kindy over the years, one which we all enjoy.
They loved the science of making bread. Along with the touch, smell, and taste!
The excitement of punching down the dough and stretching and pulling it when kneading, was a joy to watch.
Anyone can make bread. Give it a try with your children. You won’t regret it. Even if it’s a disaster you will have fun trying.

With lots of sickness around, we have had a pretty quiet two weeks. Thankfully most of us seem to have bounced back to health and are on the mend.
Over this period we have done lots of revision and have been focussing on the well known tale “The Three Little Pigs”. In STEM with Ms Frusher we have been designing and creating our own straw houses to test against a good old huffing and puffing (a hairdryer!). We have explored that the number three begins with a ‘th’ sound and identified other words that begin and end with this diagraph. We have sequenced the story, made character connections, and explored the beginning, middle and end of the tale.
We connected the digital microscope and spent time looking at the observable properties of the materials that feature in the story, straw, sticks and bricks. Using the microscope was really interesting and we naturally moved on to looking at the carpet, our clothes and even our shoes under the microscope!

Archie, Tiahla, Lahni and Emily shared their Family History with the class. It has been so interesting to learn about the different role everyone’s relatives had.
We have been working so hard in Literacy to complete our Narratives. They are so professional. You will be amazed at everyone’s writing. The stories are interesting and have weird and wonderful problems that get solved by the end of the story. We will share a few in the assembly on Monday.
Some of us know how to find a quarter of a shape and some of us know how to find an eighth of a group of objects. It has been really fun working with fractions in Maths.

This term we have been investigating how landscapes are formed and change over time. We have been looking at how weather, erosion and deposition play a part in these changes.
To allow us to experience these changes firsthand, and without having to wait years, we planned our own experiments.
We started by studying other people’s experiments and discussed how we could change them to suit our topic.
Students made their own plans and hypothesised what their experiments would show.
We had a great afternoon gathering, preparing and creating our landscapes. Weather of all sorts hit them. We had wind, rain, earthquakes and tsunamis!
We are now studying and explaining the results.

This Term Miss Frusher is teaching S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in all our classes. S.T.E.M education fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, preparing students for future careers and helping them understand and innovate in a technology-driven world.
Our Early Years Classes (Kinder, Prep/1 and 1/2) are having construction challenges linked to Nursery Rhymes. We have started with the Three Little Pigs. Our challenge is to design and build houses that the big bad wolf cannot blow down.
In our middle and upper Primary classes (2/3, 4/5 and 4/5/6) we are beginning a challenge to design and build a craft that floats on water and can hold a weight. We have looked at some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional watercraft for inspiration.
