Hello everyone,
Embracing Colder Weather and Staying Healthy
As the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, we find ourselves in the heart of winter. This season brings its own unique challenges, particularly with the flu season upon us. It's important to stay vigilant in maintaining good health practices. Remind your children to wash their hands regularly, cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and stay warm with appropriate clothing. Together, we can keep our community healthy and thriving during these colder months.
Celebrating Academic Achievements
I am delighted to share some fantastic news regarding our recent PAT Early Years assessment results. Our students have shown remarkable progress, with 100% of students in grade 1 achieving medium to high growth in reading. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both our students and educators. Congratulations to everyone for this outstanding achievement!
Parent-Teacher Conversations in Week 10
We believe that strong communication between parents and teachers is crucial for student success. As we approach Week 10, we will be pleased to offer upcoming opportunities for parent-teacher conversations. These meetings provide a valuable chance to discuss your child's progress, address any concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support their continued growth. We encourage all parents to participate and look forward to productive and insightful discussions. So please look out for more information to come regarding booking a time to meet.
Photo Day Success and Appreciation
Middle of winter, days of rain and wind and our annual Franklin Primary photo day are things you can count on happening in Term 2. However nervous we were about the weather, the day was a great success, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our students and staff for their brilliance throughout the day. Their cooperation and positive attitudes made the day run smoothly and efficiently. A special thank you goes to Ella, our School Business Manager, for her exceptional organisation and coordination of the event. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, Ella, and the day and other key events wouldn’t be the same without you.
Let's continue to work together to make this term a successful and enjoyable one for all.
Warm regards,
James Milne
Principal
Dear Families,
I’d like to convey some really positive Reading data that we have recently received regarding PAT Early Years (Prep & Grade 1) testing from Term 1.
Our data shows that 100% of all FPS students tested in Prep and Grade 1 achieved medium or high relative growth for Reading (up from 90% 12 months before). This is very exciting news and confirms the validity of the hard work that we have undertaken to improve reading results at our school.
All staff and teachers at the school are enormously proud of these results and we would like to thank families for your continuing support. Our Home Reading program is a vital component of this, so if you have any questions on how you can best support reading at home with your child then please don’t hesitate to contact me. Similarly, Books for Brekky is on in earnest in the Library from 8:30am – 9am every Thursday. If any parents or members of the school community wish to be involved, please let me know.
Warm Regards,
Nick de Tarczynski
In Prep/1 we have finished up looking at the Three Little Pigs, culminating in a science in experiment. We had built models of the houses, and we had looked at the observable properties of these materials. We recorded what we knew about these materials and made predictions around what would happen to them if they burnt. We burnt them in the fire pit and then recorded our observations around what actually happened. This was by far the most fun thing to do ever!!
It has been a busy two weeks in Grade 2/3. In English we have been learning about Information and Persuasive Tests. Identifying their features and how these features help us to gain information or be informed.
In Maths, we have been working on addition strategies including friends of 10 and beyond, Bridging Ten and Beyond, and Doubles and Near Doubles.
The last couple of weeks in 4/5 Witts we welcomed Lewina Schrale into our class. Lewina is a physiotherapist who comes into classrooms and assists teachers in ways and tools to support student engagement.
Students enjoyed getting to know how different professionals can support our learning.
Lewina has advised us on a new way organise our classroom so that we can move and learn in it to the best of our ability.
We have an active corner with trampoline and other things to help us move. Students have been enjoying the whiteboard and freedom to express their thinking and feeling.
We have a quiet corner with a sensory box (padded and fluffy) that muffles sound and feels like a warm hug. Sitting in it with our weighted toy (Johnathon the dog) helps calm and regroup ready for more learning.
There are more changes to come. We are trying a little at a time to gage effectiveness before adding and changing.
The students have been very excited and welcoming of the changes.
How our classroom was:
Year 4/5/6 have been very busy lately. It’s been great working full time and getting to spend every day with the students. We are continuing to research famous migrants to Australia from different eras in HASS and are looking at how Indigenous Australians were living at the same time. Students have been working very hard on using fractions, decimals and percentages and how these link to real life. We made a delicious Scarpaccia using some donated zucchinis and Mr Milne sampled them for us, declaring them delicious! We are so happy to see full attendance on many days in the past few weeks. Hopefully we will have something to celebrate at the end of Term when the class with the highest attendance is announced! Enjoy the long weekend 4/5/6!
