PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Franklin Families,

Although the colder autumn weather prompted a quick change in venue for the swimming carnival, the day provided many examples of great sportsmanship with every student willing to participate in different events and to cheer on their friends as they competed. Both teams were confidently organised and led by this year’s House Captains : Mountain - Heidi. A and Marcus. C.  River - Kobe.B and Hazel.K.

Additional leadership roles were also decided recently by classes as they voted for students to be their Class Captains for Term 1. Congratulations to the following students: Prep- Jesse.F, Rubi.L. Year 1 – Indigo.E, Charlie.B.  Year 2/3B – Siena.W, Hunter.S. Year 2/3Y - Willow.P, Noah.F. Year 4/5 – Lily.C, James.S. Year 5/6 – Kobe.B, Mikayla.L.

Lastly, I would like to highlight one more program that supports leadership across the school. The school’s Daily P.E program. This has been a long-standing whole school activity that not only encourages healthy exercise but also supports the development of leadership skills in our students. I have been very impressed by the commitment of our Year 6 leaders, in particular their ability to support some of our younger students. The leaders are extremely well organised and very patient with their peers, but most of all they still enjoy the experience of participating in and leading activities.

All the above leadership positions are an important feature of empowering students and building school pride. They build positive relationships and provide an opportunity to learn effective communication and interpersonal skills

Huon & Channel Swimming Carnival

We will have a team of swimmers representing our school at the Huon & Channel Swimming Carnival on Monday 15 March. We wish them all the best. Parents are welcome to join the team at the Huon Pool.

Parent Teacher Conversations

Our Prep to Year 6 Parent Teacher conversations will be held from Monday March 22 to Friday March 26. At this meeting you will have the opportunity to discuss how your child has settled into the new school year and talk about the best way to support their learning. Your child’s progress report which focuses on work habits and social skills will be sent home prior to this.

Hats in Term 1

All students must always wear hats when outdoors in Term 1. Franklin is a Sun Safe school with a “No hat. No Play” policy.  Please ensure that your children have a hat and that it is clearly named. Caps cannot be worn for sun safety reasons. Bucket hats are available to purchase from the school office.

We thank you for your support in keeping our students sun safe and sun aware.

Lost Property

We have a large number of school jumpers in the lost property basket at the moment. Please check if your child is missing a school top.

Sickness

Please remember that if your child is sick, including having a fever, runny nose, cough or sore throat it is most important that they not come to school.
