PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Franklin Families,

A very successful Cross Country was held last week at the new location of Franklin Oval and surrounds. In perfect Cross Country conditions students tackled the new course with enthusiasm. It provided plenty of different running terrain and some great finishes to races. Participation was excellent and a highlight was the encouragement and cheering from all students. Thank you to Mr Mitchell for his organisation of the day and to all those parents who joined us to support their children and help with the event.

Supportive Learning Environments

Included in this newsletter is a visual of the Department of Education Learners First commitment: Together we inspire and support all learners to succeed as connected, resilient, creative and curious thinkers.

Underpinning this commitment is the work staff at Franklin do to enable all students to reach their potential, drawing on the knowledge and expertise of families and other professionals.  A supportive learning environment upholds the notion that everybody is different, has different needs and all members are successfully included. Some students may need more support in order to access learning programs and reach their goals than others. There are many aspects of supportive learning environments that enable connecting, sharing and learning for our students and their families. A range of resources are provided by DoE in schools to support all learners. These include:

  • Support Teachers skilled to support classroom teachers in improving learning outcomes for students with disability or additional needs.
  • Inclusive Practice Team providing tailored and differentiated support based on individual school needs.
  • Support specialists including School Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists and Social Workers.
  • Professional learning resources and materials.
  • Educational adjustments disability funding.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN assessments have started and our Year 3 and 5 students should be very proud of the positive and responsible manner in which they have approached each assessment.  As we all know testing is not always a preferred experience and can lead to some students feeling anxious and stressed. However, this year all students have demonstrated a very optimistic attitude to the week ensuring they have the opportunity to do their best.

Huon & Channel Cross Country Carnival

A large representative cross country team will take part in the Huon & Channel Primary School Cross Country Carnival at Huonville Primary on May 26.  Congratulations to all those students who have been selected to represent the school.  We wish them all the best.

National Simultaneous Story-time

This annual celebration aims to encourage young Australians to read and enjoy books. All students will have the opportunity to enjoy listening to the 2021 picture book, Give Me some Space by Philip Bunting. read by a NASA astronaut live from the International Space Station.

Playground Supervision

A reminder for parents and carers that they must closely supervise children in the playground after school. Please do not allow children to use playground equipment in an unsafe manner and contrary to the school playground expectations. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter and for supporting our students to use the playground safely.

Have a great week
