YEAR 2-3 YELLOW
We began Term 2 with an excursion to the John Elliot Classics Museum at UTAS. This museum houses a large collection of artefacts from ancient civilisations. We explored the stories represented on these artifacts, as well and looking at the written languages used to tell them. We made Ushabti idols, based on those placed in Ancient Egyptian tombs. We have inscribed these with our names, written in hieroglyphs. Writing in this way is slow, and not easy!
Term 2 is a fairly busy term, with Swimming and Water Safety in the middle of it for our Grade 3’s. The cooler weather is upon us so please take care and rug up! We have all of our new devices ready to go, so expect some SeeSaw journal posts from the kids. We have swapped out Music for Art this term. Our weekly specialist days are the following:
Monday: P.E with Mr Mitchell
Wednesday: Art with Mr Holmstrom
Thursday: Library with Mrs Jones
With Mrs Witts we have begun inquiring into what we know about Australia. With Ms Bec we have had lots of wonderings around space.
In English we are continuing to focus on our individual spelling programs, as well as engaging in whole class spelling investigations. These spelling investigations allow us to explore spelling strategies and rules. We have moved from persuasive writing to narrative writing, with a focus on structure and creating descriptive texts. Our reading focus will be reading different text types and reflecting on the author’s purpose.
In Maths we are continuing to explore number, operations, and place value, looking to increase our mental computation and visualisation skills. Following on from our chance experiments in term 1, we have been looking at representing data and interpreting data. Our Money focus with Mrs Witts is finished and we are moving towards modelling and representing fractions.
