YEAR 2-3 BLUE
Welcome to Term 3. During the last two weeks of Term 2, we had fun putting our bee hotels together. First, we were helped with gluing our wooden panels together with a hot glue gun in preparation to secure the box together with nails. We then painted the outside of our boxes with sealer primer undercoat. Next, we were kindly given some cob mixture to use for part of the filling and to help to secure the short lengths of cane into layers of cob mixture. A pencil was used to make cavities for the native bees to rest in. When this was dry, we spent a lovely afternoon outside filling the rest of the boxes with raw materials and finished them of with attaching wire mesh on the front to hold it all in. We learned how to label features of a honeybee. We also spent time reflecting on and recording our new learning on our mind maps in a different colour to show our growth in learning about bees and their importance for both humans and our natural environment. We also wrote thank you letters to our excursion hosts from Our Mate’s Farm and the Honey Pot.
